All About The Pool
Saving the pool is a groundswell effort starting on the streets of Phillips. Neighborhood residents have lobbied tirelessly at the capitol for the bonding bill (HF307/SF214) to fund the renovation of the pool. These are people who have never been politically involved in their lives, new immigrants, homeless people, and some who have a very confrontational relationship with authority, yet all are working together to save the pool. They include: African Americans, European Americans, Hispanics, Kenyans, Koreans, Native Americans, Nepalis, Somalis. Community members have met with Minneapolis elected officials to get support for funding the pool. Local high school students got hundreds of their friends fill out "Save the Phillips Community Center Swimming Pool" cards.
It's been a fabulous community asset during other periods.
The neighborhood children have been picking up trash to raise awareness to save the pool.
